“…The expressions of PGC-1α protein and mRNA were both lower than CG. This agrees to the results of studies by Fang et al [46], Odaira et al [47], and Agudelo et al [48], which indicates that the AMPK /PGC-1 signaling pathway factor is activated by chronic stress and that AMPK energy metabolism pathway disorders happen in the skeletal muscles of depression patients. In contrast to the results of this experimental study, Cao et al [49] found that mice with chronic social failure had lower levels of ATP in the brain.…”

“…For depression, metformin can reduce depressive symptoms in T2DM patients with depression [9]. In mice, metformin ameliorates depressive-like behaviors induced by CSDS [13] or CUMS [14]. A recent study reported that administration of metformin at 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg, but not 300 mg/kg, rescued the increased immobility in FST and TST in LPS-treated male Swiss albino mice [51].…”

“…And recently, metformin was also found to be effective as an adjunct to antidepressants in nondiabetic major depressive disorder (MDD) patients [10]. Moreover, metformin is also found to ameliorate depressive-like behaviors in rodent models [11][12][13]. In a rat T2DM model induced by streptozotocin and nicotinamide, foot-shocks were administrated to model comorbid depression in diabetic rats.…”

“…Due to high morbidity and mortality, depression is a significant condition affecting people's health. It is necessary to develop a new antidepressant because of delayed symptom improvement and side effects of existing antidepressants . The paper provides a theoretical basis for the further application of Fuzi in treating conditions that affect the central nervous system (CNS).…”
