Metastasizing basal cell carcinoma originating in a stasis ulcer in a black woman

Abstract: A case of basal cell carcinoma originated in a long-standing stasis ulcer on the lower extremity and then metastasized to the dermis and subcutaneous tissue of the thigh. The literature on metastasizing basal cell carcinoma is reviewed.

Some clinical characteristics may be suggestive of BCC in the setting of venous insufficiency: 16 multiple ulcers, atypical localization, discrepancy between a moderate chronic venous insufficiency and the severity of the ulcer, and a rather clean aspect contrasting with chronicity or progressive extension. Contrary to SCC, the prognosis of BCC arising on CLUVO is favourable.…”
