Metamorphic core complexes of the Transbaikalia: review

Abstract: Metamorphic core complexes (hereafter MCC) revealed in the Transbaikalia have similar features of their patterns. Three levels can be distinguished by structuralmaterial indicators: core, zone of mylonites (dynamically metamorphosed rocks) and overlying formations. The cores are composed of the Paleozoic granites and granitogneisses. Zones of mylonites skirt the cores and are characterized by various tectonites which are formed at the expense of the core rocks. The overlying formations include volcanogenicsedi… Show more

“…Our data show that the Elikan granite gneiss arch can be ascribed to structures similar to Late Mesozoic complexes of metamorphic cores of the Cordilleran type distinguished within the Eravnino Terrane of the Yenisei-Transbaikalian tectonic collage, the Mongolia-Okhotsk fold belt, and the northern part of the Argun-Idermeg Superterrane of the Central Asian fold belt [4,8,16]. The major elements of its geological structure include a detachment zone, a core, and an upper sheet.…”

“…Some researchers [3] considered that they originated from the interference of folds corresponding to different deformation stages. The authors believe that the granite gneiss arches and domes of the West Stanovoy Terrane are metamorphic cores of Cordilleran type [8].…”

“…The process of thickening of the earth's crust associated with mantle influence is usually accompanied by diapirism of the asthenosphere [Mazukabzov et al, 2011], basification (in the understanding of Academician V. V. Belousov) and eclogitization [Pavlenkova et al, 2016]. The thickness of the crust also increases during the formation of large igneous provinces [Artemieva and Meissner, 2012].…”
