Metamaterial-Inspired Antenna Array for Application in Microwave Breast Imaging Systems for Tumor Detection

Abstract: This paper presents a study of a planar antenna-array inspired by the metamaterial concept where the resonant elements have sub-wavelength dimensions for application in microwave medical imaging systems for detecting tumors in biological tissues. The proposed antenna consists of square-shaped concentric-rings which are connected to a central patch through a common feedline. The array structure comprises several antennas that are arranged to surround the sample breast model. One antenna at a time in the array i… Show more

“…An impedance matching technique based on metasurface was used to overcome the limitations of gainbandwidth product [26]. A planar antenna-array inspired by the metamaterial concept where the resonant elements have sub-wavelength dimensions for application in microwave medical imaging systems for detecting tumors in biological tissues is shown in [27]. Recently, phase gradient metasurfaces have proposed for manipulating the wavefront of anomalous reflection and refraction waves [28]- [31].…”

“…e demand of high data rate wireless communication has become essential, and several approaches have been presented [1][2][3]. Broadband antenna methods have been paid the most attention for numerous benefits, such as immunity to multipath cancellation, low interference to legacy systems, increased communication operational security, and higher data rates [4][5][6][7]. e broadband antenna methods play a significant role in the short-range wireless communication systems.…”
