Metal transition complexes of tridentate Schiff base ligands derived from 2-hydrazinopyridine: synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and X-ray structures

Abstract: Mononuclear complexes of 1-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)-2-(pyridin-2-yl)hydrazine (HL 1 ) and 1-(pyridin-2-yl)-2-(1-, [Zn(HL 1 )(CH3COO)2] . (H2O)3 (2), [Mn(HL 2 )2] . (ClO4)2 (3) and [Cu(HL 2 )(NO3)2] (4), were synthesized and characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods and X-ray structure determination. The mononuclear compounds 1, 2 and 4 contain one ligand molecule per metal atom while the manganese (II) atom in the compound 3 is coordinated to two ligand molecules. Both ligands coordinated to… Show more

“…N=C bond distances of 1.274(4), 1.264(2), and 1.269(3) Å for [DEP(Cu)Cl 2 ] , [DEP(Zn)Cl 2 ] , and [DEP(Cd)Br 2 ] , respectively, agreed well with the values reported for similar imine complexes 65–67 . Further, the C(5)–C(6) bond distances for [DEP(M)X 2 ] are indicative of delocalized π electrons 8,65–67 .…”

“…The N imine –M–N amine and N pyridine –M–N amine bond angles signifies trigonal bipyramidal and square pyramidal geometries for these complexes 8,65–67,69 . The Cl terminal –M–Cl terminal bond angles in [DEP(Cu)Cl 2 ] and [DEP(Zn)Cl 2 ] were 103.12(4)° and 117.87(19)°, respectively, whereas the Br terminal –Cd(1)–Br terminal angle was 109.54(3)° 65–67,69 . Previously, DEP was used by the Mukherjee group for the synthesis of Cu (II) complexes containing Cu (II) 4 building blocks with an overall two‐dimensional (2D) structure 69 …”

“…This activity enabled considerable knowledge transfer to LCCO and subsequently, more than 70 further sample analyses have been successfully completed. Many novel and interesting structures have been characterized and have resulted in eleven joint publications in a range of journals, between 2018 and 2023 (Gaye et al, 2018(Gaye et al, , 2020Gaye, Fall et al, 2023;Gaye, Sarr et al, 2023;Gaye, Ndoye et al, 2021;Gaye, Kebe et al, 2021;Sokhna et al, 2023); Diallo et al, 2022;Diop et al, 2019;Faye et al, 2020;Sarr et al, 2018;Sylla-Gueye et al, 2020). Recent samples originated from more than a dozen current doctoral students from within the LCCO itself, the wider Department of Chemistry or from two additional joint projects with the University of Bambey, Senegal and Gaston Berger University of Saint-Louis, Senegal.…”
