1‐[(Z)‐{(2E)‐[(3E)‐3‐(hydroxyimino)butan‐lidene]hydrazinylidene}methyl]naphthalen ‐2‐ol, H2L (3) was synthesized by the agents of 2‐hydroxy‐1‐naphtaldehyde, 2,3‐butanedione monoxime and hydrazine in two steps. The structures of the compounds have been proposed by elemental analyses, spectroscopic data, that is, IR, 1H NMR, UV‐vis, X‐ray, mass spectra (ESI or TOF), molar conductivities and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The ligand has potentially three nitrogens and an oxygen donor to be able to bind a metal center. In the light of analytical and physical results, it was suggested that the ligand may coordinate to by N,O/N2/N2O donor set to form square planar, octahedral, distorted square planar and tetrahedral complexes. Proton NMR evidence indicating that the ligand coordinates the metal ion through the phenolic oxygen and nitrogen of imine in the nickel and zinc complexes. Molar conductivity measurements reveal that all the complexes are non‐electrolytes. In addition, catecholase activities of the complexes were studied. However, the only one of the complexes, 1b, behaves as an effective catalyst toward oxidation of 3,5‐di‐tert‐butylcatechol (3,5‐DTBC) to its corresponding quinone derivative in MeOH saturated with O2. The reaction follows Michaelis‐Menten enzymatic reaction kinetics with turnover numbers (kcat) 1.19 × 103/hour.

The chelating characteristics of 1-(aminoformyl-N-phenylform)-4-ethylthiosemicarbazide (H 3 APET) towards Cr 3þ , Fe 3þ , Mn 2þ , Co 2þ , Ni 2þ , Cu 2þ , Cd 2þ , Zn 2þ and UO 2þ 2 ions have been investigated. The structures of the isolated complexes were assigned based on elemental and thermal analyses, spectra [IR, UV-visible, 1 H NMR, ESR (for Cu(II)) and mass] as well as magnetic measurements. The IR data reveal different coordination modes for H 3 APET. Based on magnetic and spectroscopic studies Zn 2þ , Fe 3þ , Cd 2þ , Ni 2þ , UO 2þ 2 and Mn 2þ complexes are octahedral, Co 2þ and Cr 3þ complexes are tetrahedral, while the Cu 2þ complex is square-planar. Thermal stability and degradation kinetics of the complexes were studied by TGA and DTA and the kinetic parameters were evaluated.

The mononuclear silver(I) complex [AgL(HL)Á DMF] (I) (HL = C 6 H 13 O 2 N 2 Br) has been prepared and characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic methods, single crystal X-ray diffraction, cyclic voltammetry, and antibacterial activity tests. The complex crystallized in the triclinic system, and each Ag(I) is six-coordinate with a distorted octahedral geometry. The ligands chelate the metal center with N, O, and Br atoms from two different Schiff base ligands. O-HÁÁÁO intermolecular hydrogen bonds connect adjacent complex molecules to form zigzag one-dimensional linear chains along the b axis. Cyclic voltammetry showed that the complex displays an irreversible reduction process at -0.41 V. The data from antibacterial activity tests indicate that the complex inhibits the growth of Staphyloccus aureus and Bacillus subtilis Cohn.
