Metal and Phosphate Ion Recognition Using Dipicolylamine-modified Fluorescent Silica Nanoparticles

Abstract: Dipicolylamine-modified fluorescent silica nanoparticles were prepared by introducing dipicolylamine to the surface of silica nanoparticles possessing terminal amines. We examined the selectivities of dipicolylamine-hydroxycoumarin carbonate (dpa-HCC) and dpa-HCC/fluorescent silica nanoparticles (FSiNP) for metal ions and phosphate anions. The dipicolylamine-modified silica nanoparticles responded to PPi, Tri and Pb, indicating novel selectivity derived from the assembly effect of dpa-HCC on the silica nanopar… Show more

“…DPA•Zn 2+ complex is well known for its selective anion recognition property (specially phosphates) and has also been used for generating different dynamic supramolecular motifs. [53][54] Initially, we have measured the critical aggregation concentration (CAC) of the C16DPA•Zn 2+ surfactant using conductivity and scattering intensity (count rate) using dynamic light scattering (DLS) assay at fixed attenuator i.e. source laser intensity.…”

“…Dpa can complex with various metals, and the dpa-bound uorophores display diverse uorescence responses depending on the identity of the complexed metal species. 10 Furthermore, the interaction between dpa-metal complexes and ATP weakens the dpa-metal coordination, which results in changes in the uorescence of the molecule, which is critical for our design. In fact, dpa-metal complexes are well-known for their recognition of phosphoric acid derivatives, including ATP.…”

“…Moreover, the ECL was applied for the detection of phosphate ion based on the method using phosphomolybdic acid and MG + . 25 Phosphate ion is a common analyte that presents in environmental water, and several methods such as potentiometric, 26 colorimetric, 13,27 and luminescence quenching determinations 28,29 have been proposed for the determination of phosphate ions. The ion associate of molybdophosphoric acid and MG + shows light absorption around the maximum wavelength of the ECL of Eu(dbm)3phen.…”
