Metagenomics analysis of soil microbial communities in plant agroforestry system rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) – Ganyong (Canna sp.)

Abstract: Rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) is one of important industrial plants in Indonesia. It is planted widely in some provinces in Indonesia, one of which is in West Java under management of the PTPN VIII plantation, Subang Regency. Intercropping system using underutilized crops Canna sp. (Ganyong) had been introduced on Rubber plantation. The aim of this research is to analyze the diversity, abundance and richness of rhizosphere soil microbial under rubber-canna agroforestry system using metagenomic analysis of 1… Show more

“…Ktedonobacteria inhabiting Indonesia is still rarely explored, as currently only a few reports prior to this study (Yabe et al 2017, presented in Universitas Indonesia Scholar Summit; Yabe et al 2017b;Effendi et al 2020). Dictyobacter aurantiacus was the only taxa at the species level which has been proposed and isolated from the soil of paddy fields in Gunung Salak, West Java (Yabe et al 2017b).…”

“…Studies based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences analysis from the environmental samples reveal that the class Ktedonobacteria inhabit diverse environments, including common terrestrial e.g., garden soil, sand, bark, (Yabe et al 2017a), and rubber plantation soil (Effendi et al 2020) to extreme environments e.g., uraniumcontaminated soil (Brodie et al 2006), compost (Yabe et al 2017a), and rock in the Antarctic (Mezzasoma et al 2021). This class was predominantly found in extreme acidic oligotrophic environments (Tebo et al 2015), and recorded at low abundances in non-extreme environments, such as sandy soil (Acosta-Martinez et al 2010).…”

“…In particular, the RDA plot demonstrates a positive correlation between both 3HB and 3F treatments, as well as SAP and SAK with increasing abundance of unclassified Acidobacteriales, Burkholderia caballeronia paraburkholderia , unclassified Gemmataceae , and Sphingomonas, but a negative correlation with soil pH. Gemmataceae bacteria are prolific in soil with the accumulation of organic matter and plant litter [ 60 ], while Sphingomonas is typically associated as a phytohormone-producer, such as gibberellins and indole acetic acid [ 61 ]. This could explain why certain bacterial genera, particularly effective microbes, were found to be more abundant in healthy soil in this study.…”

“…Metagenomic studies have also enabled the detection of novel viruses belonging to Betaflexiviridae, Tombusviridae, and Geminiviridae families in maize [226]. Aside from maize, similar metagenomic research has also been conducted for other plants such as wheat, maize, sugarcane, rubber tree, and vegetables [227][228][229][230][231][232].…”
