Metabolites from the Dark Septate Endophyte Drechslera sp. Evaluation by LC/MS and Principal Component Analysis of Culture Extracts with Histone Deacetylase Inhibitors

Abstract: Secondary metabolites from the cultures of the dark septate fungal endophyte (DSE) Drechslera sp., isolated from the roots of rye grass (Lollium sp.) and cultured under different experimental conditions, are described here for the first time. The use of suberoylanilidehydroxamic acid (SAHA) and other histone deacetylase inhibitors as epigenetic modifiers in the culture medium was evaluated by LC/MS and LC/MS/MS. Several differences in the metabolite production were detected by means of supervised principal com… Show more

“…Some of the core and most abundant taxa, such as Darksidea sp. , Periconia macrospinosa, Slopeiomyces cylindrosporus and Drechslera sp., were previously reported as DSE in other grasses (Hornby et al, 1977; Knapp et al, 2012, 2015; Siless et al, 2018). In addition, Helotiales sp.…”

“…OHA is an analog of SAHA which has induced production in Drechslera sp. (Siless et al, 2018). SBHA has also been widely used in B. bassiana (Yakasai et al, 2011), Cordyceps annullata (Asai et al, 2012b), C. cladosporoides (Williams et al, 2008), C. indigotica (Asai et al, 2012e), I. tenuipes (Asai et al, 2012a), and Torrubiella luterorostrata (Asai et al, 2011).…”
