“…Their peculiar optical properties are related to the presence of several flavonoids at the surface epidermis of the dry scapes (Berlim et al, ). GG stem flavonoids were described as being composed by three flavanones and five flavones (Pacifico et al, ). Nowadays, the extract of S. nitens stems has been studied as a natural product against different Candida species and clinical isolates from patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), which results demonstrated that the antifungal properties are effective and it has the ability to inhibit the fungal‐host invasion on human cells (de Freitas Araújo et al, ; dos Santos Ramos et al, ).…”

“…The Eriocaulaceae family is a pantropical and predominantly herbaceous monocotyledonous family, comprising around 1400 species distributed in 10 genera . Some species of the family, such as the Syngonanthus nitens , commonly known as "capim dourado" in Brazil, is an important source of income for the residents of some rural communities in the country who use this plant species in the production of a wide range of traditional handicrafts …”

“…18,19 Dereplication Mass Spectrometry techniques have already been successfully employed towards identifying secondary metabolites including flavonoids and naphthopyranones in the Eriocaulaceae family species. 5,16 By virtue of that, we decided to use a dereplication approach based on Liquid Chromatography coupled to High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HPLC/ESI-HRMS/MS) as an analytical tool for the rapid screening and structural determination, with analytical sensitivity and specificity, of the main secondary metabolites present in the aerial parts of A. divaricatus (capitula, scapes and leaves). Furthermore, we also carried out chromatographic fractionation of the crude methanolic extract aiming at isolating new compounds of A. divaricatus, which were fully characterized by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Mass Spectrometry.…”

“…The coils of Syngonanthus nitens scapes together with buriti palm strips are used to make traditional handcrafts, acessories and other decorative items. 3 Endophytic fungi are defined as fungi that live asymptomatically within the tissues of higher plants. 4 They are a rich source of secondary metabolites with novel structures and biomedical potential.…”
