Chemical metabolome assay by high‐resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometry and assessment of associated antitumoral activity of Actinocephalus divaricatus

Abstract: The HRMS technique enabled us to identify several classes of compounds. In addition, saponins were identified for the first time in plants belonging to the Eriocaulaceae family. Thus, the essential contribution of this work lies in the new elements it brings to the taxonomic discussion which the Actinocephalus genus as a distinct genus of the Paepalanthus. The results obtained show that the methanolic extract of the capitula could be a promising source of bioactive fractions and/or compounds that may contribut… Show more

“…Their structures were determined by spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques [ 23 ]. Additionally, the naphthopyranones 134 and 136 were identified in aerial parts of Actinocephalus divaricatus by high-resolution orbitrap mass spectrometry [ 79 ]. Compounds 134 , 135 , and 136 were also isolated in the whole Eriocaulon buergerianum species [ 53 ].…”

“…For the Q-Exactive, the Orbitrap is used for acquiring both MS and MS/MS spectra [46]. Although Orbitrap instruments have originally found great applications in proteomics analysis, where very high resolution is required, several hyphenated LTQ-Orbitrap-MS methods, mainly coupled to (U)HPLC-based techniques, have also been reported for small compounds identification [25,[47][48][49] and metabolite profiling [26,50,51], as well as for metabolome [52] or dereplication studies of natural products in complex plant extracts [27].…”
