“…Hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis has been described in patients with hyperparathyroidism [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9], There are, however, divergent reports of the frequency with which metabolic acidosis occurs in this condition, ranging from less than 7% [8] in some series to almost 70% in others f 1], The reasons for these discrepant results are not readily apparent. In this editorial we review the factors that may be involved in the generation of the metabolic acidosis of hyperparathyroidism and discuss the reasons that may account for the seemingly conflicting reports concerning this association.…”
