Meta-analysis

Abstract: H. pylori infection shows a negative association with the development of endoscopic GORD. Eradication of the infection may be a risk factor for de-novo endoscopic GORD, especially in Asian populations.

“…They showed that fasting gastric juice pH of H. pylori positive gastric ulcer changes significantly from 6 to 2 after eradication. Reflux esophagitis is well known to occur in approximately 10% of subjects after eradication therapy [31,32], suggesting that significant improvement of gastric acidity should be observed shortly after eradication in cases without histological improvement of atrophy.…”

“…However, the relationship between GERD and H. pylori remains incompletely defined ( 29 ). Several studies suggested that eradication of H. pylori infection in the setting of duodenal ulcer disease would result in an increase in GERD symptoms ( 3 , 30 ). In other words, an inverse association of H. pylori infection with decreased rate of this sort of disease was a challenging topic in new gastroenterology ( 14 , 31 33 ).…”

“…Discordant results are also referred to the need of H. pylori eradication in GERD patients. In fact, some evidence suggests that eradication of the infection may be a risk factor for denovo endoscopic esophagitis [16] , whereas other studies report a low risk of gastric atrophy in patients with successful H. pylori eradication and undergoing long-term acid suppression with PPI [17] . Our study tried to look at this relationship from another perspective.…”
