Mesoporous Silica Layer: Preparation and Opportunity

Abstract: Periodic mesoporous silicas, which were prepared from silica-surfactant mesostructured materials, have been investigated for a wide range of application due to their very large surface area, high porosity, pore size uniformity and variation, periodic pore arrangement and possible pore surface modification, after the pioneering papers on the formation of mesoporous silicas (MCM-41 and FSM-16). Morphosyntheses from such macroscopic morphologies as bulk monolith and film to nanoscopic ones, nanoparticles and thei… Show more

“…Although, these high silica zeolites synthesized by using different quaternary ammonium halide/hydroxide as templates found huge applications industrially as solid acid catalysts, their sub‐nanometer size pore window was the major obstacle that these catalysts face, while catalyzing reactions of bulky organic substrates . This is largely overcome by the discovery of ordered mesoporous silicas and folded sheet materials FSM‐16, which are synthesized in the presence of the supramolecular assembly of cationic surfactants as structure directing agents. Several key synthetic routes for designing ordered and disordered mesoporous materials are illustrated in the next few sections.…”

“…56 Accordingly, it is worth investigating to examine the molecular migration in various media with designed connection. The possibility of fabrication of mesoporous silicas 57 and organophilic clays 58 into films will be utilized to control the backward reaction further and to design photochromic devices. “…The porous structure of MSPs provides a large surface area, allowing for the incorporation of large amounts of drugs within a small carrier and binding to different molecules 59 . Empty MSPs in an extracellular environment are likely to operate in a similar manner and incorporate molecules, which can pass through the silica pores or bind to the silica in a concentration dependent manner.…”
