Meso/Macroporous CoMo Alumina Pellets for Hydrotreating of Heavy Oil

Abstract: CoMo catalysts supported on meso/macroporous alumina have been designed for hydrotreating of heavy oil. Pellets were prepared from pseudoboehmite and polystyrene colloidal crystals with subsequent CoMo compounds supporting on alumina. Supports, fresh and spent catalysts were characterized by crushing tests, X-ray diffraction, scanning and high-resolution transmission electron microscopies, N 2 sorption and pycnometric techniques, mercury porosimetry, and different methods of elemental analyses. The hydrotreati… Show more

“…The side and lateral crushing strengths of the extruded -Al 2 O 3 were 9.3 N/mm and 435 N/cm 2 , respectively, which is much higher than 329 N/cm 2 of the sample reported by Parkhomchuk et al [31], 360 N/cm 2 reported by Laurer [32], and 97 N/cm 2 reported by Wassermann and Meyer [33]. This di erence is possibly due to various preparation details and characteristics of starting materials.…”

“…The di raction peaks of -Al 2 O 3 (Figure 7) are more intense and narrower than those of -Al 2 O 3 , demonstrating better crystallinity. The observed patterns could be attributed to the presence of -phase due to the separation of re exes 220 and 400 [31]. Following the loading of cobalt and molybdenum, the peaks at 23.…”

“…After synthesizing the hierarchical bimodal macro-mesoporous zirconia oxide via a simple route in the presence of CTMABr, Tidahy et al [17] found that the highest catalytic activity was achieved over the 0.5 wt% Pd/macro-mesoporous ZrO 2 sample, a result due to the better Pd dispersion and a more amount of reducible PdO species. Recently, preparation and catalytic applications of hierarchically three-dimensionally ordered macro-mesoporous Al 2 O 3 have attracted great interests [13,[18][19][20][21][22]. For example, Bian et al [19] used the soft/hard dual templates to make macro-mesoporous Al 2 O 3 , and observed that the 2 wt% Pt/macro-mesoporous Al 2 O 3 catalyst showed considerably higher activity than the 2 wt% Pt/commercial Al 2 O 3 in the range of 20-200 o C at SV = 60,000 mL/(g h) for CO oxidation.…”

“…Hydrogen can be supplied directly as a pure gas [17][18][19][20], produced in-situ from chemical compounds and biological species [21][22][23][24], or extracted from syngas process in-situ via water gas shift reaction [20,[25][26][27][28]. In the first case, a significant amount of hydrogen proceed to hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) [18,20] and the process is over the odds [19]. The impediment of the second method is low conversion [22] and inability to operate at relatively higher reaction conditions due to biological species [23,24].…”
