An American's view of the differences and similarities between the United Kingdom and Chinese approaches to undergraduate engineering education with an acknowledgement of the approaches used in the United States will be presented. This view is formed from her experiences at the University of Glasgow (UoG), the joint educational programme (JEP) between the University of Glasgow and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), and at three institutions of higher learning (IHLs) in the United States. Comparisons include the curricula, student and instructor expectations, instructional techniques, assessment of learning, programme accreditation and quality assurance, privacy of information, and parents' rights and engagement at UoG, UESTC, and the three US IHLs at which the author has taught.
