“…They only found a non-statistically significant trend between urinary BD (proposed in their study as a suitable biomarker for low level BD exposure) and DHBMA in end of shift urine (r = 0.27, P = 0.066) (Fustinoni et al 2004). Based on the available data and on the consistent finding of relatively high levels of DHBMA in control urine (Albertini et al 2001;Perbellini et al 2002), MHBMA is probably the most suitable mercapturic acid to assess BD exposure at the occupational level (higher than 0.1 ppm). However, as a general rule before using a new BEI for bio-monitoring purposes, analytical procedures for the measurement of MHBMA should be validated with the participation in external quality controls.…”

“…For a review of those methods see the paper of De Rooij et al (1998). Among analytical methods described in relation to human exposure, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) or gas chromatography (GC), in association with mass spectrometry (MS) detection, especially in tandem mode (MS/MS), were the most frequently published, as reviewed by Perbellini et al (2002). When considering only the latest publication in this field, it seems also clear that LC-MS/MS based methods, although still considered as rather expensive, should be now regarded as the first choice for MAs determination in human urine.…”

“…Diferentes métodos têm sido propostos para determinação do AFM urinário em estudos direcionados à avaliação da exposição humana (ambiental e/ou ocupacional) ao benzeno e seus impactos à saúde 8,[36][37][38][39][40] . Alguns estudos considerados relevantes sob o ponto de vista analítico foram compilados neste trabalho, e alguns dos procedimentos utilizados são apresentados na Tabela 1.…”
