“…In a cross-sectional study, we compared the psychological situation and the quality of life of LA patients (n=41) with patients on hemodialysis (HD; n=41) and healthy thrombocyte donors (n=29). 43 LA and HD patients had similarly increased presence of psychological symptoms with concurrent decreased quality of life. Thus, an accompanying psychological treatment may be helpful.…”

“…40 A recently published large study demonstrated that patients undergoing lipoprotein apheresis or hemodialysis exhibit higher levels of psychological symptoms than normal subjects with no history of extracorporeal treatment, and which are associated with reduced health-related quality of life and the potential for worse clinical outcomes. 41 Despite these limitations, lipoprotein apheresis is a valuable treatment option and is likely to remain so in patients with severely elevated LDL-C or who are unresponsive to drug therapy and in patients with homozygous FH. [42][43][44] Alirocumab 75 to 150 mg Q2W added to statins with or without other LLT reduces LDL-C concentrations by 44% to 73%, and is well tolerated.…”
