Uncontrolled anger is a contributing force in the three leading causes of adolescent death: homicide, suicide, and injuries. Anger may be one of the early warning signs which could lead to violent behavior. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between anger experience and expression with the potential correlates of life events, perceived social support, self-esteem, optimism, drug use, anxiety, and depressive symptoms in rural adolescents. The participants (n=193) were aged 14 to 17 years old in ninth through eleventh grades enrolled at three rural Western Pennsylvania public high schools. Participants completed nine questionnaires. Negative life events, anxiety, drug use, and depressive symptoms had significant positive correlations with anger. In addition, anger was found to have significant negative correlations with the adolescents' perceived family support, self-esteem, and optimism. With this knowledge, health promotion programs conducted by pediatric nurses can target anxiety, drug use, and depressive symptoms while bolstering family support, self-esteem, and optimism to promote anger management in adolescent health care. Early adulthood is the transitional period between adolescence and adult life. As with other general young adult population, university students carry along several of life's issues such as a personal and social adjustment, academic and career concerns, stress and other related psychosomatic issues which may lead to an unhealthy mental condition. These "life baggage" and stress must be managed well in order to prevent them from interfering with normal adult development and growth processes. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between several selected demographic characteristics and the mental health status of young adults studying in public Malaysian universities. A total of 1467 respondents were recruited using a multistage cluster sampling. General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) (Goldberg, 1978) was the research tool utilised to assess the undergraduates' mental health status. Findings indicate that a majority of undergraduates exhibit a healthy mental state while a minority has some mental health concerns. One-way ANOVA tests showed that the mental health of undergraduates in this study differed in terms of ethnicity, year of study and academic field. In conclusion, these findings can assist student development personnel and academicians in enhancing their understanding of the current mental health status of undergraduate students and the demographic factors that relate to it.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to investigate comprehensive (classes 1-9) school teachers' views of the functionality of the social support networks in promoting pupils' health and well-being in school communities. This study belongs to the European Network of Health Promoting Schools programme (ENHPS) evaluation project in Finland. In this study partnership and the social support networks between home and school, school nurse and school community and school community and various other networks are a part of social capital that promote pupils' health and well-being. The survey data were collected from teachers (N = 22) by the means of web-based questionnaires in the spring terms in a four-year follow-up design. The teachers felt that the social support network and partnership between school and parents and school nurses was significant in promoting the health and well-being of pupils. However, parents and school nurses didn't always have opportunities to participate in the planning and evaluation of teaching and health promotion work in the schools. In the future, partnership will represent a potential way in which schools might build additional capacities and support for promoting pupils' health and well-being. Furthermore, social capital is not separate from other capital structures, such as cultural and economic capital, which are all needed.
