Mendelian randomization study updates the effect of 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels on the risk of multiple sclerosis

Abstract: Background Observational studies and previous Mendelian randomization (MR) studies have shown that genetically low 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) levels are associated with a high susceptibility to multiple sclerosis (MS). The present MR study aims to update the causal estimates for the effects of 25OHD levels on MS risk. Methods To date, the largest genome-wide association study (GWAS) for serum 25OHD (n = 401,460) and MS (14,498 MS cases and 24,091 … Show more

“…3 , 4 MR study has been widely used to assess the causal link between an exposure and an outcome. [3][4][5][6][7] To assess the effect of COVID-19 on endometrial cancer, we performed the present two-sample MR study as followed.First, we extracted genetic instrumental variants (IVs) from COVID-19 GWAS. To date, the largest COVID-19 GWAS was reported by the COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative in 2020.…”

“…Mendelian randomization (MR) is a method using specific genetic variants as a natural experiment to evaluate the putative causal relations between a potential exposure factor and outcome factor (7)(8)(9). Thus, we used a two-sample MR study to identify the putative causal link between plasma omega-3 levels and low back pain.…”

“…Using genetic variants independent of many factors that bias observational studies, Mendelian randomization (MR) studies have many advantages in assessing the causal association between an exposure and an outcome. 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 Thus, we used a two‐sample MR study to identify the causal genetic link between COVID‐19 and childhood intelligence.…”
