“…The study exposes that there are ways to work around the situation by building together with the person in mental illness, methods of suppressing the biomedical model, these being some of the instruments: dehospitalization, welcoming, autonomy, family and team co-responsibility, Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS) and deinstitutionalization of the individual, family and also society. Background: Empathy, from the Greek empathetic means to enter into the feeling, a term initially used by aesthetic theorists, to designate the ability to perceive the subjective experience of the other. For empathy to occur as a therapeutic process, it is essential that a relationship of mutual respect be developed and that nurses provide individualized care, respecting the culture, beliefs and values of the person. Purpose: This study aimed to determine to know and characterize the scientific production on Empathy in Mental Health Nursing Care in Brazil.Methods: This is a metasynthesis performed in the first half of 2018 that involved five stages: formulation of the problem, data collection, evaluation of the collected data, analysis and interpretation of the data, and presentation of the results.Results: Of the 6 studies that were part of this metasynthesis, the method most used among the forms of treatment among the health professional/patient is the biomedical model, focusing on the disease and not on the human being in a broad and holistic way, consequently, being performed only one punctual care and not a care in order to meet all the biopsychosocial needs of the patient. Conclusion: As a way to improve care and meet the patient's needs, empathy is one of the main tools of mental health care in Brazil, because with it we can gain trust and establish bonds with the patient, thus gaining an effective relationship for both parties, thus being able to perform an affectionate, integrative and productive care

O ambulatório é um serviço de saúde antigo no campo da assistência psiquiátrica, criado na época em que o modelo manicomial direcionava o tratamento. Com o tempo, surgiram outras maneiras de se pensar o cuidado de pacientes em sofrimento psíquico. A partir disso, novos serviços foram estabelecidos, com funcionamento e direção de trabalhos diferentes do que o ambulatório tradicional apresentava. O presente artigo visa, então, discorrer acerca das limitações e possibilidades do ambulatório de saúde mental atualmente, enquanto um serviço estratégico da Reforma Psiquiátrica, destacando o trabalho feito no Ambulatório de Saúde Mental de Jurujuba, em Niterói. Realizou-se um levantamento bibliográfico, além da utilização de situações oriundas da observação no momento de realização de estágio curricular no curso de Psicologia da Universidade Federal Fluminense. Concluiu-se que o ambulatório articulado com diretrizes antimanicomiais é primordial para que uma assistência com maior qualidade seja oferecida.

Empathy is the ability to understand, share, and take care the feelings of others. It is a construct that works directly at the cognitive, affective and behavioral levels, and influences in a particular way each phase of the development. In elderly people, empathy is responsible for maintaining networks of support and preservation of a healthy cognition. Cognitive deficits and isolation are the main responsible for low levels of empathy in the elderly people and is the first step for the development of diseases such as depression and dementias. Some alternatives such as the development of social skills and neuropsychological rehabilitation can give the elderly the autonomy necessary to resume part of activities previously performed by them, and thereby strengthen empathy. The presence of support networks is the main ally in the preservation of empathy in the third age. We conclude that empathy is very important in preserving the cognitive reserve and the well-being of the older, and his low levels the entrance door for organic and psychological diseases.
