Medical textiles based on viscose rayon fabrics coated with chitosan-encapsulated iodine: antibacterial and antioxidant properties

Abstract: Adsorption of chitosan nanoparticles with embedded iodine was implemented onto pristine and oxidized cellulose viscose fabrics in order to introduce antimicrobial and antioxidative functionalization. The adsorption capacity, charging behavior and electrokinetic response of differently functionalized viscose at different pH values were analyzed by determining their zeta potential. Desorption studies, besides zeta potential measurements, were supported by polyelectrolyte titration. Finally, the antimicrobial pro… Show more

“…In addition, there is a high risk of developing a pressure sore (ischial or trochanter) and postural disorder kyphosis due to daily sitting in a wheelchair. These findings have shown us the following two directions for further studies: (a) Development of antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of the viscose textile material that can act as a prevention and curative manner regarding the extended incontinence and sweating [29]. (b) Development of individually adapted functional garments in terms of individuals' health problems by using the computer simulation techniques and CASP methodology.…”

“…Producers of 3D human body scanners usually offer software for visualization of the scanned (standing) 3D body model and automatic extraction of the anthropometrical dimensions based on standard ISO 8559 [43]. However, this software cannot represent scanned sitting body and extract anthropometrical body dimensions automatically.…”

“…The chronical moistening of the skin was found to be a major problem for potential skin irritations and inflammations or even wounds due to the incontinence or sweating. Therefore, by using the antimicrobial and antioxidative textile materials (AATM) [43] in specific parts in the pants (crotch area, between the thighs, contacts of the body with a wheelchair), the prevention against potential health problems can be achieved.…”
