“…Infestation with cysticercosis is less common after the age of 40 years (Pushker et al, 2002). There does not appear to be any definite sex predilection, though some studies report slightly higher prevalence in males (Mohan et al, 2005;Puri & Grover, 1998;Sundaram et al, 2004). We noted a slight male preponderance (59.4%) in our series.…”

“…Most reports have used oral albendazole in a dose of 15 mg/kg/day in two divided doses and oral prednisolone 1.5-2 mg/kg/day with successful results for 4 weeks (Pushker et al, 2002;Sekhar & Lemke, 1997). Puri and Grover (1998) used a dose of 30 mg/kg/day of oral albendazole and 5-10 mg/day of oral steroids with favorable results. In our series, we successfully used oral albendazole in a dose of 15 mg/kg/day in two divided doses and oral prednisolone at a dose of 1 mg/kg/day as a single dose.…”

The inferior rectus [2] and the medial rectus [4] are the most common extraocular muscles involved. It is unusual that a case having bilateral involvement of both these muscles be clinically silent.…”

“…36 The local adverse effects of the release of toxins following the death of the larva have been reported. 25,37 Optic neuritis has been reported following oral albendazole administration in a patient with orbital cysticercosis. 38 Praziquantel is an antihelminthic drug, active against the adult as well as juvenile and larval stages of the tapeworm.…”
