“…The water acts as solvent and stimulates the physical bubbling process of composite foam due to water evaporation during the curing phase (60 °C). Analogous the reaction between CNT filler and hydride groups of PMHS (Figure ; stage 2) induces the formation of an oxygen bridge and hydrogen bubble . The so‐formed gaseous hydrogen enhances the chemical bubbling of the composite SF.…”

“…The resulting surface-modified pigment particles consist of PMHS strands that are grafted onto hydroxyl OH functional groups present on the native oxide surface of the aluminosilicate overlayer. We also investigated other bases that are known to promote the grafting of PMHS grafting to inorganic oxide and, in particular, silica surfaces, such as ammonia and potassium hydroxide, but, as discussed below, these led to hydrolytically unstable hydrophobic coatings (vide infra). To assess the degree of hydrophobicity in the resulting surface-modified pigments in their dry state, capillary-rise measurements were used to estimate the advancing water/air contact angle .…”

“…4). As a result, the organic chains adsorbed or bonded on the particles surface prevent the forming of oxygen bridge bonds and agglomeration between NPs [33,34]. The principal goals of the surface modification of NPs are stability and control growth of NPs, and the enhancement of the NP solubilization, recovery performance and physiochemical properties of NPs in various conditions and eventually, easy processing for target applications [35].…”

“…Grafting synthetic polymers on the Al 2 O 3 NPs surface is another method for covalent functionalization of particles. This approach, increases the chemical functionality and changes the surface topology of both native inorganic and organic materials [32,33]. The molecular weight of polymer surfactant and the particles size of nano-alumina play important roles in the adsorption ratio of surfactants and the degree of steric repulsive force.…”
