Mechanistic studies on degradation in sliding wear behavior of IN718 and Hastelloy X superalloys at 500°C

“…Stage 2 is of a two-step aging process, in which the printed material was maintained at 720°C for 8 h, then it was cooled down to 620°C in 2 h, and then it was soaked at 620°C for 8 h. After which the samples were trimmed for metallurgical analysis such as x-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopic analysis. Wear test as per ASTM: G99 standard was conducted in DUCOM pin on disc tribometer with load, build direction and sliding velocity (Baskaran et al , 2014; Jia and Gu, 2014; Thirugnanasambantham and Natarajan, 2016). With selected parameters, a standard L 9 orthogonal array opted as shown in Table I, and the experiments were carried out for 2,000 m sliding distance with cylindrical samples of 8 mm diameter and 30 mm length.…”

“…Inconel 718 was fabricated by laser deposition technique with the raw materials in the form of powders and wires, and observed a similar strength in both conditions (Arrizubieta et al , 2017). Dry sliding wear behaviour of IN718 and Hastelloy was studied at 500°C temperature under varying loads and observed that the load influences the wear mechanisms (Thirugnanasambantham and Natarajan, 2016).
