The coordinated development of urban energy-economy-environment (3E) systems is an inherent requirement for high-quality and sustainable development of cities. Circulation degree and sustainable development degree (SDD) are combined to the previous 3E system evaluation system to construct the integrated sustainable development evaluation model. This model realizes the accurate evaluation of different dimensions of 3E system. Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province in eastern China, is selected for empirical analysis. Findings show that development degree, circulation degree, and SDD of the 3E system in Jinan are increasing basically, and temporal trend of development degree and SDD of 3E system is synchronized. This shows that 3E system in Jinan has been improved gradually during this period, and the development of 3E system is a key factor affecting its sustainability. In 2015-2017, circulation degree and SDD were superimposed and developed in parallel, indicating that Jinan has entered the primary stage of high-quality development. The obstacle degree model is introduced to explore the main factors that impede the sustainable development of 3E system in Jinan. This study revealed that the energy consumption structure, the proportion of new energy utilization, the development of tertiary industry, and water resources protection are the key issues that should be addressed in the sustainable development of 3E system in Jinan. The top-level design concerning these issues should be highlighted in the forthcoming 14th five-year plan period.

As global problems such as the lack of resources and environmental degradation continue to intensify, the international community is increasingly aware of the importance of green development. At the same time, as a crucial guideline for China's ecological civilization construction, "Beautiful China" development, and global economic transition and restructure, green development will surely become the important engine for the green transformation and development of the Jing-Jin-Ji region and the whole country. Based on a thorough review of the concept of green development, this paper estimates the green development efficiency of 13 cities in Jing-Jin-Ji region of China in 2003-2017 by using the super efficiency SBM model. Then, by employing the coefficient of variation and the Global Moran's I, this paper further explores the spatio-temporal differentiation characteristics of the green development efficiency. Finally, the spatial panel model is used to explore the influencing factors of the green development efficiency. The results show the following: (1) The overall green development efficiency in Jing-Jin-Ji region of China declined steadily by 2% from 0.965 in 2003 to 0.948 in 2017. (2) The green development efficiency basically presents the spatial differentiation characteristics of the higher in the northern cities and the lower in the southern cities. (3) The green development efficiency has significant regional differences, and increased by 22% from 0.240 in 2003 to 0.295 in 2017. (4) Economic development level influence on the green development efficiency presents a "U" shaped curve that suppresses and then promotes. Industrial structure and the degree of openness have a positive influence, and urbanization have a negative influence on green development efficiency. Whereas, technological innovation has non-significant influence. Based on these findings, this paper proposes some targeted policy suggestions for promoting the green development efficiency.

The integrated night light (NTL) datasets were used to represent the economic development level, and visual analysis was carried out on the evolution characteristics of the economic spatial pattern of various urban agglomerations in the Yellow River Basin (YRB), at a county-scale, in 1992, 2005, and 2018. The Global Moran’s I and the local Getis-Ord G methods were used to explore the overall spatial correlation and local cold–hot spot of economic development levels, respectively. The spatial heterogeneity of the influence of relevant factors on the economic development level at the municipal scale was analyzed by using the multi-scale geographically weighted regression (MGWR) model. The results show that the county-level economic spatial pattern of urban agglomeration in the YRB has an obvious “pyramid” characteristic. The hot spots are concentrated in the hinterland of the Guanzhong Plain, the Central Plains, and the Shandong Peninsula urban agglomeration. The cold spots are concentrated in the junction of urban agglomerations, and the characteristics of “cold in the west and hot in the east” are obvious. Labor input and import and exporthave a positive impact on the economic development level for each urban agglomeration, government force has a negative impact, and education shows both positive and negative polarization on economic development.
