Measuring supply chain performance: the triple E model

Abstract: PurposeThis work aims to measure the performance of an electric motors supply chain (SC) by using the Triple E performance measurement model to assess three performance dimensions simultaneously: efficiency, efficacy and environmental impact.Design/methodology/approachThis research presents a real case of a Brazilian company as an example for applying the Triple E performance measurement model and the discrete-event simulation to assess the performance of an SC.FindingsPerformance measurements for the three di… Show more

“…The construction SC concept goes beyond the management of logistics and material flows. A construction project SC means integration and collaboration between all projects stakeholders “suppliers” providing all related project activities (Li et al , 2022; Simão et al , 2022). In construction projects, wider exterior SC combination, with the involvement of SC stakeholders sharing common goals and concerns, is considered as a key solution for problems of fragmentation (Papadonikolaki et al , 2015).…”

“…Since then, plenty of research has been undertaken both to study supply chain management in various fields of activity (industry, transportation, distribution, and agriculture, among others), as well as to measure and determine the ability of different SC processes to achieve their set goals, and also, to identify processes which could be improved in order to make SCs more effective and efficient. Among the most recent works, the following are worth highlighting: supply chain risk management (SCRM) [8], environmental supply chain management (GSCM) [2], and supply chain performance management (SCMP) [9,10], as well as those works exploring the use of technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) [11,12], the Internet of Things (IoT) [12], 3D printing [12], big data [12], and blockchain [12,13].…”

“…There are several models and techniques for assessing SC performance, of which the following stand out: (a) the supply chain operation reference (SCOR) model, which is a model that describes, communicates, assesses, and identifies opportunities for improving workflow efficiency [4]; (b) the Global Supply Chain Forum (GSCF) model, which provides a systematic overview of the balance, alignment, and management of SC technological capabilities to achieve successful management [4]; (c) the Triple-E model, developed by Simao et al (2021) [10], which focuses on three performance dimensions: efficiency, efficacy, and environmental impact [10]; and (d) the BSC model, developed by Kaplan and Norton, which allows managers to obtain an overall view of a supply chain's performance [24,25].…”

“…Supply chain performance relates to quantifying the efficiency and effectiveness of supply chain processes and relationships encompassing multiple functions and companies (Maestrini et al , 2017). Various studies examine different aspects of supply chain performance including its types such as supply chain logistics, cost and service performance (Dellana et al , 2020), its metrics (Simao et al , 2021; Arif-Uz-Zaman and Ahsan, 2014), design, functionality and implementation of supply chain performance measurement system (Elgazzar et al , 2019). Researchers suggest considering a balance between financial and nonfinancial indicators for supply chain performance such as total value-added activities, return on investment, lead time, responsiveness, delivery reliability and product quality (Moazzam et al , 2018).…”
