Measuring resilience among homeless youth: psychometric assessment of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale in Ghana

Abstract: This study validated the psychometric structure of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-R1SC; in a sample of 227 homeless youth in Ghana. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with Varimax rotation was used to extract factor structures. About 62% of the total variance was accounted for by a three-factor structure: personal competence and tenacity, optimism and achievement motivation. Evidence of the external validity of scales was supported by the positive correlation between resilience and perceived social s… Show more

“…An initial study of the psychometrics of the CD-RISC supported its test-retest reliability and internal consistency in general population and patient samples 12. Several studies examine the psychometric properties of CD-RISC, assessing its validity and reliability. These studies documented that the scale has good psychometric properties (validity and reliability) [17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] in the Western world. However, we have a little evidence of good psychometric properties in the Arabic and Islamic World, so we did the current study to have a validated tool in measuring resilience.…”
