Measurements of face shear properties in relaxor-PbTiO3 single crystals

Abstract: The face (contour) shear piezoelectric properties of Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3)O 3-PbTiO 3 (PMNT) single crystals were experimentally determined by the impedance method. Zt 6 45 cut samples with various aspect ratios were investigated based on Bechmann's zero-order approximate solution. Square plates were found to exhibit a clean face shear vibration mode and the experimental data were in good agreement with the rotated matrix calculations and finite element method simulations. The piezoelectric coefficients d 36 were … Show more

“…14 Outstanding face-shear properties (d 36 =-1648 pC/N) at the cutting angle of (Zt)45 • that rotates 45 • about the thickness direction (z axis) were reported. 15,16 The same orientation was reported as the optimal direction for a face-shear mode PIN-PMN-PT single crystal USM, where a maximum no-load linear velocity of 182.5mm/s and a maximum output force of 1.03N were observed. 17 Up to now, the anisotropic analysis for the PMNT single crystal ring concerning amplitude uniformity on the stator of traveling wave motors, has not been reported yet.…”

“…15 When poled along a nonspontaneous polarization direction, various engineered domain configurations such as 4R, 3T and so on will be induced. In this type of notation, the numbers stand for the number of degenerated polarization directions and the letters refer to the specific types of ferroelectric phase.…”

“…The merit of the low frequency constant is that the sensor can be easily miniaturized for ultra-low-frequency applications such as sonar transducers. In addition, unlike the thickness-shear-mode crystals, the use of the same electrode for both poling and sensing is one advantage of the face-shear-mode crystals because crystals can be easily repolarized [103,104].…”
