Measurements of a Novel Digital Hydraulic Valve Comprising a Cushioning Feature

Abstract: This article presents simulation data and measurements of a novel valve concept that features a soft landing concept. The purpose is to validate the design framework that has been applied to design the valve. The experimental results are obtained with a test rig manufactured specifically for this type of valve design. The validation includes studying the valves switching dynamics, cushion pressure dynamics, and movement-induced flow (MIF). The tests show that the tendencies are captured accurately although the… Show more

“…The input parameters are determined from physical factors known to influence the output parameters and a systematic series of simulations. For this, several manufactured sub-optimal valve prototypes have been used to validate the quantities predicted by the models, described and validated in [6,8,9,25]. The inputs are summarized in Table 2.…”

“…Moreover, in the two seat valves, there is a common risk of the permanent magnet demagnetization caused by the mechanical impact between the plunger and the valve seat. To solve this problem, the structure of the plunger or valve seat need to be optimized [28].…”

“…They used a quasi-time optimal control to design a feed-forward controller for the fast-switching solenoids. Bender et al 21 proposed a probability-based optimal control design for soft-landing of short-stroke actuators. Soft landing optimal control was formulated by the addition of probability functions for a trajectory planning problem.…”
