Measurement of Antiproton Production in pHe Collisions at sNN=110

Abstract: The cross section for prompt antiproton production in collisions of protons with an energy of 6.5 TeV incident on helium nuclei at rest is measured with the LHCb experiment from a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.5 nb −1. The target is provided by injecting helium gas into the LHC beam line at the LHCb interaction point. The reported results, covering antiproton momenta between 12 and 110 GeV=c, represent the first direct determination of the antiproton production cross section in p-He c… Show more

“…Nowadays, the first analysed fixed-target data based on the SMOG LHCb system -initially designed to improve the luminosity determination in LHCb, now used as a low-density-unpolarisedgas target-are coming in [53,54] and confirm that the particle multiplicity in the LHCb detector is such that its performance in the fixed-target mode remains intact. One can thus consider that similar decay channels of the η c as those discussed for the collider mode could be studied if sufficient luminosities can be achieved.…”

“…2 are almost non-existent. In fact, the first ever measurement of prompt antiproton-production in pHe collisions was published by the LHCb collaboration only last August [21]. The dataset was collected in fixed-target mode with a kinetic energy of 6.5 TeV for the proton beam, and covered a pseudorapidity range of 2 < η < 5.…”

“…< p T < 2.8 GeV/c Erlang distribution Inverse power-law Antiproton production differential cross-section as a function of momentum, integrated over various transverse momentum ranges, in p+He collisions at 110 GeV. The data represent the results of LHCb Collaboration[39]. The solid and dashed curves represent the results fitted by the Erlang distribution Eq.…”
