Erectile dysfunction is one of the major concerns in diabetic patients. Platelet Indices including mean platelet volume, platelet count and platelet distribution width are important biomarkers for platelet activation and pathophysiology of atherothrombosis. Measurement of Platelet Indices may early predict erectile dysfunction in diabetic men. This study aimed to measure Platelet Indices in diabetic patients with erectile dysfunction and to correlate between them and erectile dysfunction especially of vasculogenic type. The study included 30 diabetic patients with diagnosed erectile dysfunction and 20 normal males as a control. Each patient was evaluated by history, International Index of Erectile Function-5, general and local examination, HbA1c, pharmaco-penile duplex ultrasonography and blood sample to measure Platelet Indices. Platelet distribution width and mean platelet volume were significantly higher in patients than controls (p < 0.001). Their levels were significantly higher in vasculogenic erectile dysfunction than other types (p < 0.001). No statistically significant association regards the platelet count (p > 0.05). We concluded that Platelet Indices are high in diabetic patients with erectile dysfunction especially those with vasculogenic aetiology. They can predict erectile dysfunction in diabetic men early, and so they may be considered as cheap, available and useful biomarker for early diagnosis of vasculogenic erectile dysfunction in diabetic patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), platelet count (PC) and erectile dysfunction (ED). We searched for observational studies from PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and CNKI up to 31 March 2016. Two reviewers independently selected the studies and extracted the data. MPV, PDW, and PC and mean differences in these platelet indices between healthy subjects and ED patients were explored using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software package. Seven studies including 795 patients and 524 healthy subjects met the inclusion criteria. The MPV was significantly larger in patients with ED than controls with the standardised mean difference of 0.596 fL (95% CI: 0.378, 0.815, p < 0.001). In ED patients, the pooled mean difference in MPV between vasculogenic ED patients and nonvasculogenic ED patients was 0.706 fL in case-control studies (95% CI: 0.410, 1.002, p < 0.001). There was no significant difference in PDW and PC between healthy subjects and ED patients. The available data suggest that larger MPV was associated with ED. Patients with vasculogenic ED tend to have higher MPV than nonvasculogenic ED patients. Further studies are needed to assess whether increased MPV in ED patients is associated with increased cardiovascular disease.

Objectives: Myocardial bridges (MB) are a congenital anomaly in which part of the epicardial coronary artery is intramuscular, known as the presence of myocardium, which causes narrowing of the artery during heart contraction. We aimed to evaluate hemogram parameters (especially platelet indices) in diabetic patients with myocardial bridges. Methods:We reviewed angiograms performed between May 2017 and August 2019 at Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University Medical Faculty Hospital. After appropriate exclusions, diabetic patients were divided into groups with myocardial bridges and normal coronary artery groups. A total of 124 patients were included in the study and hemogram parameters of these two groups were compared. Kolmogorov Smirnov test was used to examine the normality of variables.
