“…Dipnictanes R 2 E–ER 2 contain a central E–E bond and the group 15 elements adopt the oxidation state II. The first compound of this type, Me 4 As 2 , which is known as “ fuming arsenical liquid ” or “ Cacodyl ”, was prepared by Louis Cadet de Gassicourt in 1760 and later on by Robert Bunsen, whereas the heavier congeners Me 4 Sb 2 and Me 4 Bi 2 were prepared in the early 1930s. , Since distibanes and dibismuthanes exhibit rather weak Sb–Sb and Bi–Bi bonds, they have been studied as promising starting reagents for the synthesis of persistent Sb- and Bi-centered radicals by thermally activated homolytic bond cleavage reactions.
