MDCT: a new era in imaging

Abstract: Multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) is an effective imaging technology, providing rapid and non-invasive images in three dimensions. Compared with standard computed tomography (CT), MDCT allows faster data acquisition and shorter scan times, with wider coverage, high resolution and the potential for cardiac gating. Routine thin-section acquisition allows for flexible reconstruction (thick or thin slices), while dedicated software provides three-dimensional and functional data analysis. The technology … Show more

“…MDCTA is the most frequently used imaging technique for the detection of endoleak. New multidetector-row CT scanners allow fast acquisition of images with thin collimation, thereby generating huge data sets with the production of high-quality images: a 25-s, 16-row, whole-body scan produces 2100 images (34). Postprocessing methods currently show an impressive visual capacity for representing anatomical structures, but they are not always adequate in detecting and visualizing all pathological conditions.…”
