“…Salles et al (2018b) described A. pacis based on a male imago, and A. caldasi based on a male subimago, a female imago and eggs, both from Putumayo and Caldas in Colombia. After reviewing the most recent lists of Ephemeroptera species in Venezuela (Chacón et al, 2009) we find that this genus has not been reported previously, so this would be the first record of Atopophlebia in the country.…”

“…Based on the number of published studies on mayflies in South America, it is obvious that there has been more collecting effort in Brazil and Argentina than in any other country in this region [3]. In the last decades, a few studies have helped to increase our knowledge of Venezuelan mayflies (e.g., [5][6][7]). Recently, Nieto et al [1] and Molineri et al [4] studied Ephemeroptera in Venezuela's Guyana Uplands, and in two articles the number of species recorded in the country increased from 33 to 50, reinforcing the need to increase the sampling area in order to really document the Ephemeroptera diversity in this country.…”

“…Taxonomic studies of Ephemeroptera fauna in Venezuela are particularly scarce and fragmentary (Segnini et al 2003), with the new information given herein the mayfly fauna consists of 40 species distributed in 25 genera and 8 families (Derka 2002, Segnini et al 2003, Derka et al 2009, Mora-Day et al 2009, Chacón et al 2009, 2010). The species richness described so far represents about 9% of the mayflies in the Neotropics.…”

“…Particularly, little work has been done about the Ephemeroptera fauna from Guyana Shield region (Bolívar State), in southern Venezuela, where a very high endemism is expected (Domínguez et al 2006), because this area is one of the largest biodiversity and endemism reserves in the world (Huber 1995, Rull 2005. Indeed, only 8 species, 9 genera and 5 families (Leptophlebiidae, Oligoneuriidae, Caenidae and Euthyplociidae) of mayflies have been previously reported and/or described for this region (Pescador & Peters 1990, Derka 2002, Segnini et al 2003, Derka et al 2009, Chacón et al 2009, Mora-Day et al 2009.…”
