In this paper, we consider an overlay satelliteterrestrial network (OSTN) where an opportunistically selected terrestrial IoT network assist primary satellite communications as well as access the spectrum for its own communications in the presence of combined interference from extra-terrestrial and terrestrial sources. Hereby, a power domain multiplexing is adopted by the IoT network by splitting its power appropriately among the satellite and IoT signals. Relying upon an amplifyand-forward (AF)-based opportunistic IoT network selection strategy that minimizes the outage probability (OP) of satellite network, we derive the closed-form lower bound OP expressions for both the satellite and IoT networks. We further derive the corresponding asymptotic OP expressions to examine the achievable diversity order of two networks. We show that the proposed OSTN with adaptive power splitting factor benefits IoT network while guaranteeing the quality of service (QoS) of satellite network. We verify the numerical results by simulations.

Space Information Network (SIN) with backbone satellites relaying for vehicular network (VN) communications is regarded as an effective strategy to provide diverse vehicular services in a seamless, efficient, and cost-effective manner in rural areas and highways. In this paper, we investigate the performance of SIN return channel cooperative communications via an amplify-andforward (AF) backbone satellite relaying for VN communications, where we assume that both of the source-destination and relaydestination links undergo Shadowed-Rician fading and the source-relay link follows Rician fading, respectively. In this SIN-assisted VN communication scenario, we first obtain the approximate statistical distributions of the equivalent end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the system. Then, we derive the closed-form expressions to efficiently evaluate the average symbol error rate (ASER) of the system. Furthermore, the ASER expressions are taking into account the effect of satellite perturbation of the backbone relaying satellite, which reveal the accumulated error of the antenna pointing error. Finally, simulation results are provided to verify the accuracy of our theoretical analysis and show the impact of various parameters on the system performance.

Recently, an attractive link-selection scheme has been proposed for nonregenerative relaying networks, by considering one source, one relay and one destination. In that scheme, based on a distributed mechanism, either the direct link or the relaying link is preselected at the transmitter side, before each communication process. This saves not only feedback overhead, when compared with centralised mechanisms, but also time slots, when compared with fixed relaying along with selection combining at the receiver side. Herein, we extend the design and analysis of such a scheme in order to allow for multiple relays and multiple destinations. In such case, before the link selection mechanism takes place, a destination and a candidate relay must be chosen. We consider two different relay-selection policies: the locally optimal one and the so-called max-min. The analysis is provided in terms of outage performance and spectral efficiency. As in related studies, an exact treatment proves intractable, because the underlying probabilities are extremely intricate. Instead, for the locally optimal scheme, we provide integral-form lower and upper bounds for the two performance metrics, as well as closedform asymptotic expressions for each outage bound. For the max-min scheme, we provide a closed-form lower bound and an integral-form upper bound for the outage probability, as well as closed-form asymptotic expressions for each of these bounds and an exact integral-form expression for the spectral efficiency. Interestingly, our results show that the proposed distributed link-selection scheme is as good as its centralised counterpart and barely affected by the choice of the associated relay-selection policy.
