MATLAB Simulink Simulation Platform for Photonic Transmission Systems

Abstract: High speed and ultra-high capacity optical communications have emerged as the essential techniques for backbone global information transmission networks. As the bit rate of the transmission system gets higher and higher 40 Gb/s to 100 Gb/s the modeling of proposed modulation techniques is very important so as to avoid costly practical demonstration. The search for a universal modeling platform for such systems is urgent. Matlab Simulink has become the universal mathematical and modeling tools in most universit… Show more

“…Non-Gaussian noise distributions can be modeled as a mixture of additive zero-mean Gaussians distributions [31]. In [32], L. Binh used SIMULINK to simulate non-Gaussian noise as a mix of Gaussian distributions. Figure 9 shows that UKF continues to outperform the EKF in the presence of non-Gaussian noise, which was created by adding three zero mean Gaussian noise distributions using SIMULINK built-in blocks.…”

“…Junichiro Ichikawa has reported about the setup for 640 Gb/s optical transmission, clock recovery and demultiplexer using LiNbO 3 based optical devices to design such high data rate optical transmission system [9]. Being a universally mathematical modeling tool, a Simulink based Optical Transmission System was demonstrated using ASK and FSK for 40 Gb/s data rate [10]. Binh et al also has published detailed report on Raman Optically amplified MSK multispan transmission system using Matlab Simulink [11].…”

“…MSK signal exhibits constant amplitude and continuous phase at every bit transition time and lower side lobes. These features make MSK a preferable data modulation format for high speed and high spectral efficiency system [10]. As a result, MSK can be considered as a potential modulation format for longhaul communications incorporating EDFA amplification.…”
