EDFA amplified MSK optical transmission system

Abstract: This paper presents the performance and compatibility of optical signal amplification using a high gain, low noise figure, Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) with linear Minimum Shift Keying (MSK) modulation format for the transmission of DWDM signals in optical communication system.

“…Erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) systems, especially with single-pass (SP) and double-pass (DP) configurations (SP EDFA and DP EDFA), have been extensively used in critical highperformance optical communication applications (Hossain et al, 2007a;Hossain et al, 2007b;Hossain et al, 2007c;Dabiri and Sadough, 2018;Parali and Pinar, 2016;Yamada et al, 2014;Jiao et al, 2014;Arya et al, 2010). Two different pumping signal wavelengths are being used in SP EDFA and DP EDFA systems; 980 and 1480 nm (Desurvire, 2002;Giles and Desurvire, 1991;Becker, 2002).…”

“…Performance of EDFA systems 1155 (Nakawaza et al, 1989;Hossain et al, 2007b;Dabiri and Sadough, 2018;Parali and Pinar, 2016). Therefore, pumping at 1480 nm is preferred for booster amplifier operations, although the output signals obtained from SP EDFA and DP EDFA systems have relatively higher NF problem (Becker, 2002;Hossain et al, 2007a;Hossain et al, 2007b;Hossain et al, 2007c;Dabiri and Sadough, 2018;Parali and Pinar, 2016;Yamada et al, 2014;Jiao et al, 2014;Arya et al, 2010;Singh, 2018;Sindhi et al, 2017;Sindhi et al, 2017;Herbster and Romero, 2014;Yang et al, 2015;Shukla and Kaur, 2013). Thus, in this work, our main motivation is to overcome this higher NF at the 1480 nm pumping level.…”
