Techniques are described for simulating a line-to-ground fault with a delta-groundedwye transformer between the machine and the fault and using single-pole switching to clear the fault. Set forth in detail is the analytical technique for simulating such a fault in an all-qdO simulation. This technique eliminates the necessity of inductance matrix inversion, allows a variable step integration algorithm to be used for second swing stability analysis, and yields a computationally faster solution than a phase variable solution.
