Maternal and Fetal Atrial Natriuretic Peptide Levels, Maternal Plasma Renin Activity, Angiotensin II, Prostacyclin and Thromboxane A2 Levels in Normal and Preeclamptic Pregnancies.

Abstract: To clarify the possible role of elevated atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in the pathophysiology of preeclapmsia, we measured ANP, renin activity (PRA), angiotensin II (Ang II), TXB2 (a stable metabolite of TXA2) and 6-keto-PGFIa (a stable end product of PGI2) concentrations in the plasma of 19 normal pregnant women and 35 severe preeclamptic patients at term. Plasma ANP levels in the preeclamptic patients (n = 35, 71.5 + 3.8 pg/ml, mean+ s.E.) and also umbilical plasma ANP (n = 35, 83.0± 4.2 pg/ml) were signi… Show more

“…We have formed a hypothesis on the patho physiological role of ANP in preeclampsia in our previous report [9], In this report we would like to conclude that the ANP and BNP increase in preeclampsia may be rather a sequel to preeclamptic pathophysiological changes, and may not play an important role as the etiological factor of preeclampsia. Recently, molecular biological characteris tics of ANP have been reported [16,20]; the exaxt role of ANP and BNP in preeclampsia has yet to be investi gated.…”

“…Plasma human ANP was measured by RIA as described in our previous report [9], RIA of a-ANP was done with synthetic human a-ANP (Peptide Institute Inc., Osaka) used as an assay standard along with human a-ANP antiserum, and 125I-labeled ANP (Amersham Inc. Ltd., London, England) as a tracer. A sample (100 pi) or a standard (100 pi) was incubated with antibody (100 pi) in 80 mmol/1 phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) for 24 h at 4°C before the addition of the tracer.…”

“…The stable metabolites of TXA 2 and PGI 2 are TXB 2 and 6-keto-PGF 1␣ respectively. The dynamic equilibrium of TXB 2 /6-keto-PGF 1␣ is a significant factor for the regulation and control of vessel wall intensity, and the regulation of regional flow (Furhashi et al, 1991). Our results suggest that BYHWD has an ameliorative effect on CHD by regulating active substances in vascular endothelium.…”

“…physiologic conditions was determinated using its stable metabolite TXB 2 , and PGI 2 using its stable metabolite 6-keto-prostaglandin F 1␣ (Furhashi et al, 1991). All determinations were performed using commercially available radioimmunoassay kits (Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital, Beijing, China).…”

“…It is noteworthy that a significant linear trend in blood pressure during pregnancy was observed across 3 groups of women born with LFD, AFD, and HFD weights. Blood pressure during pregnancy is controlled by several mechanisms (Furuhashi et al 1991). Despite the increases in circulating blood volume and cardiac output, arterial blood pressure decreases during pregnancy (Conningham 2005).…”
