A novel approach for material selection is developed on basis of probability theory. The novel concept of favorable probability is formed to express the favorable degree of a candidate material in the selection. It assumes that all utility indexes of material performance indicators can be attributed to beneficial or unbeneficial type, and each utility index of material performance indicator devotes to one partial favorable probability in the selection; a partial favorable probability is linearly correlative to the corresponding utility index of material performance indicator in positive or negative manners upon its nature of whether beneficial or unbeneficial type; the product of all the partial favorable probabilities forge the overall / global favorable probability of a candidate material. Finally, all the candidate materials can be ranked according to their overall favorable probability comparatively in the material selection. As application examples, the quantitative material selections of cylindrical shaft, stamping of titanium bipolar plates for fuel cell and tribological coatings are given; furthermore, the novel approach is combined with the orthogonal and uniform experiment designs to conduct their optimizations under multi-object conditions.

Sustainability Assessment of a Low-Income Building: A BIM-LCSA-FAHP-Based Analysis

The construction industry is one of the most significant consumers of environmental resources worldwide. Faced with the need to produce new buildings, but without further burdening the environment, attempts to improve social, economic, and environmental indicators have turned attention to building construction in recent decades. The objective of this research is to develop a novel framework to assess the most sustainable choice of materials applied to the construction of low-income buildings, according to the three pillars of the Triple Bottom Line (TBL). A BIM-LCSA-FAHP-based model was proposed with the creation of nine different scenarios, where the materials of the structure (precast concrete, cast-in-place concrete, and structural masonry), painting (PVA water-based and acrylic), and roofing (ceramic and fiber cement tiles) varied. The proposed procedure consists of the elaboration of a 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) model, for which the parameters described above were evaluated according to the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA)-TBL-based criteria, divided into ten sub-criteria, that includes: (1) environmental (acidification, eutrophication, global warming, ozone depletion, smog formation, primary energy, non-renewable energy, and mass total), (2) economic (construction cost) and (3) socio-political issues (community impact). Finally, the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used as a multi-criteria decision-making technique that helps in aggregating and classifying the impacts of each scenario in a sustainability index (SI). Regarding the best option for low-income construction, the results indicated that precast concrete when combined with acrylic paint and fiber cement tiles (scenario 3) proved to be the most advantageous and achieved first place in the sustainability index (SI) developed in this work. This methodology is replicable for different construction typologies and several categories of materials, making it a robust decision-aiding tool for engineers, architects, and decision makers.

In this paper, sine trigonometry operational laws (ST-OLs) have been extended to neutrosophic sets (NSs) and the operations and functionality of these laws are studied. Then, extending these ST-OLs to complex neutrosophic sets (CNSs) forms the core of this work. Some of the mathematical properties are proved based on ST-OLs. Fundamental operations and the distance measures between complex neutrosophic numbers (CNNs) based on the ST-OLs are discussed with numerical illustrations. Further the arithmetic and geometric aggregation operators are established and their properties are verified with numerical data. The general properties of the developed sine trigonometry weighted averaging/geometric aggregation operators for CNNs (ST-WAAO-CNN & ST-WGAO-CNN) are proved. A decision making technique based on these operators has been developed with the help of unsupervised criteria weighting approach called Entropy-ST-OLs-CNDM (complex neutrosophic decision making) method. A case study for material selection has been chosen to demonstrate the ST-OLs of CNDM method. To check the validity of the proposed method, entropy based complex neutrosophic CODAS approach with ST-OLs has been executed numerically and a comparative analysis with the discussion of their outcomes has been conducted. The proposed approach proves to be salient and effective for decision making with complex information.
