This paper presents a generic Sensing Node, part of a Cyber-Physical System, dedicated to the Structural Health Monitoring of reinforced concretes. The Sensing Node is: battery-free; low-power; fully wireless; wirelessly, remotely and omnidirectionally powered and controlled by the Communicating Node(s) over several meters (at least 11 meters in indoor). It can be buried in the reinforced concrete and measure relevant parameters, such as temperature, relative humidity, mechanical deformation, and electrical resistivity to estimate the corrosion rate. By using a unique antenna, the proposed solution meets the requirements of the Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer paradigm. The proposed system is easily scalable to other applications, especially in harsh environments.

Information and communication technologies, like WirelessSensor Network (WSN), allow to imagine new objects. Objects whose material could be composed of micro-elements able of data sensing, storing, processing, and communicating. Communicating Materials (CM) is a new paradigm inspired by Intelligent Product concept. This paper presents a recursive Multi-Agent Framework proposed for handling composition of Communicating Materials, which is an application of the Janus Effect. The proposed framework, still in development, is illustrated on the McBIM project, consisting in designing a communicating concrete and digital services that can be used by Building Information Modelling (BIM) applications throughout its lifecycle. MAS principles are demonstrated on this construction industry project to control WSN energy and to illustrate CM aggregation ability.

This paper presents the vision behind the McBIM project, funded by the French National Agency of Research (ANR). McBIM stands for "Communicating Matter for BIM" and is a concept coined by the CRAN laboratory, concept at the basis of the scientific contributions of the project. Building upon latest advances in Semantic Web technologies, Wireless Sensor Networks and digital twins in AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction), the project aims at delivering real-time integration of sensor data into accurate digital building representations. The overall goal is to enable actionable knowledge, meaning knowledge that supports decision making. After a brief summary of the issues addressed and the overall project vision, this article depicts main contributions made so far in the context of the ANR McBIM project. These address semantic interoperability with BIM standards (e.g. IFC ISO 16739), routing in wireless sensor networks along with autonomic computing.
