The article considered the issues of the modification of gypsum stone to improve its performance properties. The influence of mineral additives on the physical and mechanical characteristics of the modified gypsum composition is described. The composition of the gypsum mixture included slaked lime and an aluminosilicate additive in the form of ash microspheres. It was isolated from ash and slag waste from fuel power plants as a result of their enrichment. This made it possible to reduce the carbon content in the additive to 3%. Modified compositions of the gypsum composition are proposed. The binder was replaced with an aluminosilicate microsphere. Hydrated lime was used to activate it. Its content varied: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% of the weight of the gypsum binder. Replacing the binder with an aluminosilicate product for the enrichment of ash and slag mixtures made it possible to improve the structure of the stone and increase its operational properties. The compressive strength of the gypsum stone was 9 MPa. This is more than 100% higher than the strength of the control composition of gypsum stone. Studies have confirmed the effectiveness of using an aluminosilicate additive—a product of enrichment of ash and slag mixtures. The use of an aluminosilicate component for the production of modified gypsum mixtures allows the saving of gypsum resources. Developed formulations of gypsum compositions using aluminosilicate microspheres and chemical additives provide the specified performance properties. This makes it possible to use them in the production of self-leveling floors, plastering and puttying works. Replacing traditional compositions with a new composition based on waste has a positive effect on the preservation of the natural environment and contributes to the formation of comfortable conditions for human habitation.

Clay-gypsum binder is the main component for products and plaster coverings used in premises with dry climates. The raw material for producing clay-gypsum binder is sedimentary rock containing gypsum dihydrate and clay in an amount from5 to 30%. In order to expand the range and possibility of using clay-gypsum binder, it is hydrophobized by introducing synthetic resins. The purpose of the research presented in the article is to study the possibilities of increasing the softening coefficient of clay-gypsum binder by introducing thermosetting resins. As a result of the experiment, based on the methods of mathematical planning and statistical processing, a methodology for selecting the composition of the clay-gypsum binder was developed and the optimal content of thehydrophobing agentin the binder was determined.

Study and Characterization of Special Gypsum-Based Pastes for Their Use as a Replacement Material in Architectural Restoration and Construction

Within the construction sector, the use of gypsum-based pastes features in the majority of monuments, giving this material significant relevance in conservation and restoration projects affecting the world’s cultural heritage. In this research, we evaluated special gypsum-based colored pastes mixed with air lime, hydraulic lime and sodium silicate, and eight different pigments for their use as replacement materials in architectural restoration and construction. We analyzed the suitability of their physical and chemical properties and their hydric characteristics, mechanics and colorimetric implications in two different studies after 28 days and 120 days. The characterization of the products has mainly confirmed the suitability of the pastes containing pigments for use in the most common applications for these kinds of mixes, highlighting that their specific capacities are worth leveraging. The crystallization of gypsum minerals, observed in all of the mixes, helps to consolidate the shrinkage cracks which appear inside the pastes, improving their mechanical strength values. Another observation of the pastes is related to the amorphous silica precipitates in the mixes which contained sodium silicate: the latter provided to them good mechanical behavior. The improvement observed in the pastes containing the green earth pigment is substantial, due to the inclusion of aluminum silicates and Mg, which is partly responsible for the increased compressive strength of the pastes. Finally, the colorimetric analysis is of vital importance in determining the loss of intensity of the colors of the pastes used, since subjective observation leads to serious errors of interpretation.
