Mass Spectrometry of an Intact Virus

Abstract: Wieviel wiegen Viren wohl? Die gleichzeitige Messung des Flugzeit‐Massenspektrums und der Zahl der Ladungen der bei der Elektrospraymethode erhaltenen Ionen ermöglicht es, die Masse eines intakten Virus zu bestimmen. Untersucht wurden das ikosaedrische Virus RYMV, bestehend aus einem RNA‐Einzelstrang in einer homogenen Proteinhülle, mit einer Masse von 6.5×106 Da und das stabförmige Tabakmosaikvirus mit einer Masse von 40.5×106 Da.
