“…Moreover, this fraction selectively induces apoptosis in HT-29 colon cancer cells by a JNK-p53-dependent mechanism (17), as well as induces significant changes in the cytoskeleton of this human colon cancer cell line (18). The effect on cell proliferation and apoptosis exerted by olive oil in HT-29 cells has been considered due to some components of the skin of olives, which contains pentacyclic triterpenes, that is, maslinic and oleanolic acids (19).…”

“…Thus far, oleanolic acid and maslinic acid are known to have beneficial properties against different types of cancers [114,117,118,119,120,121,122,123,124]. Recently, Sánchez-Quesada et al [114] sought to elucidate whether both compounds possessed chemopreventive activity on two cell lines of human breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231 and MCF7) (Table 4).…”

“…Maslinic acid has been revealed to exert therapeutic effects on a variety of solid tumors, including in bladder, prostate, colon, esophageal, colorectal, cervical and ovarian cancer (5)(6)(7)(8). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the antitumor functions of maslinic acid remain elusive.…”
