Marlim 3-Phase Subsea Separation System: Project Overview and Execution Stragegy

Abstract: The Marlim SSAO 3-Phase Subsea Separation System is the world's first systemfor deepwater separation of heavy oil and water which re-injects water in thesame producer reservoir. The major difficulty for reinjection in the producerreservoir is the strict water quality requirement, limiting maximum solidparticles (sand) and residual oil content. This challenging application posedinnumerous challenges to the project and the solutions developed give aworldwide pioneering characteristic to this system. This paper p… Show more

“…• Enablement of increased ultimate volume recovery from low energy reservoir [2,5] • Mitigation of topside water handling capacity constraints [3] • Enablement of heavy oil production [4] • Improved hydrate management [2,5,9] Deployment of subsea processing systems however introduces additional complexity. A careful design and operating strategy has to be carried out to maximize investment rewards, i.e.…”

“…For further development of offshore oil and gas, researchers have gradually focused their research and development on the technology of subsea oil and gas oil and gas separation. Many solutions have been proposed, such as the Marimba-provided VASPS, Perdido's BC-10 system and Rordis' SSBI system [1][2][3][4][5]. In all of these solutions, subsea separation technology is used, where oil, water and gas are separated and then transported over long distances using a mixture of oil and gas phases.…”
