Marine Archaeology Assessment of the South Terminal Project Orange and Jefferson Counties, Texas

Abstract: BOB Hydrographics, LLC (BOB) conducted a marine archaeological assessment in support of the Orange County South Terminal Project. The South Terminal is proposed on an oxbow channel of the Neches River, downstream from Beaumont, to accommodate loading and unloading of ships and barges and an adjacent tank storage facility. Plans for marine portions of the property include construction of two ship docks and one new barge dock. Dredging will remove sediments down to an elevation of -42 feet (ft) Mean Lower Low Wa… Show more

“…However, the wide and thick hull of these vessels can easily cause damage to vessels or ports [27]. The navigation process can generate oil pollution [26], which can easily have adverse effects on the surrounding natural environment and ecological conditions [28,[56][57][58]. Therefore, the impact of the surrounding marine ecological environment will be investigated in terms of the environmental health and marine ecological environment along with the port.…”

“…The impact of village development was further divided into economic (14 questions), social (11 questions), and environmental (7 questions) aspects with reference to [30,31,[46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53][54]. The questionnaire on the impact of port marine ecosystems (8 questions) was edited with reference to [4,5,26,27,[55][56][57][58], as shown in Table 1 below. Except for the background information, a 5-point Likert-type scale was used for all issues.…”

“…Working base with direct boundaries with river categorized as swamp working area and the one with the sea categorized as offshore working area (Inácio et al, 2022;Kocik et al, 2022). The seafaring line that headed to the swamp working base jetty are not routinely be dredged because there are no big ships activities that required too deep riverbed and the sedimentation is not as significant as it is at offshore (Gearhart, 2020;Lubchenco & Haugan, 2023). While for offshore working base, the seafaring line channel is routinely be dredge (yearly basis) for the requirement of supply barge moor at the jetty (Moore et al, 2021;Paik & Thayamballi, 2007).…”
