Marginal bone resorption around immediate and delayed loaded implants supporting a locator‐retained mandibular overdenture. A 1‐year randomised controlled trial

Abstract: The aim of this 1-year study was to evaluate and compare crestal bone loss and clinical outcomes of immediate and delayed loaded implants supporting mandibular overdentures with Locator attachments. In a randomised controlled clinical trial, 36 completely edentulous patients (mean age 59.6 years) who desired to improve the stability of their mandibular dentures were randomly assigned into two groups. Each patient received two implants in the canine area of the mandible after a minimal flap reflection. Implants… Show more

“…Some articles have reported the comparison between the ISQ measured on the abutment and the value measured directly on the implant platform [23–27]. In the present study, the log-linear marginal regression indicated that each unit increased in the square root of the smartpeg height, tended to decrease about 12% the mean ISQ value.…”

“…The clinical findings reported in the present study, with a success rate of 83.3% for NDI connected to locking taper stud abutments as MO retainers, demonstrate a stable clinical behavior after the osseointegration period. However, some studies showed a significant increase in the peri-implant health indices over time 16,35,36. The evaluations of the PI, GI, and calculus index in our study indicate that higher values for these indices occur during osseointegration.…”

“…This crestal bone loss was in the normal range documented with immediately loaded implant overdentures. [10] This bone loss may be attributed to immediate bone response to healing and reorganization combined with function stresses in addition. [11] In the conventional titanium, dental implant group had shown higher mean values of bone loss along the study period Ragheb, et al…”
