MapCHECK used for rotational IMRT measurements: Step‐and‐shoot, Tomotherapy, RapidArc

Abstract: When properly modified, the MapCHECK response becomes isotropic. It can then be used for patient-specific QA measurements for IMRT treatments delivered with step-and-shoot and rotational techniques such as helical Tomotherapy and RapidArc.

“…Van Esch et al (20) considered the angular dependence of a 2D ionization chamber array (Seven29, PTW‐Freiburg, Germany) by using a dedicated octagonal phantom (OCTAVIUS, PTW). Jursinic et al (24) modified a 2D diode array (MapCHECK, Sun Nuclear, Melbourne, FL) by considering the angular dependence. MatriXX Evolutiion , which is an upgraded version of I'mRT MatriXX, has been developed for composite dose verification of rotational techniques such as VMAT.…”

“…The only true 3D dosimeters with high spatial resolution are radiochromic gels/polymers,16, 17 one of which was successfully used for VMAT‐based SIMT validation 18. However, volumetric radiochromic dosimetry is sufficiently cumbersome at this point to prevent its use for routine patient‐specific quality assurance 19. Therefore, a more practical method is needed that combines some high spatial resolution measurements with 3D dose reconstruction over a volume of an adult head.…”

“…Planar diode arrays are a standard tool for myriad external beam quality assurance tests, most popularly for patient‐specific dosimetric verification of intensity‐modulated radiation therapy fields, 1 , 2 for both static 3 , 4 and rotational 5 , 6 delivery techniques. One of the diode arrays most commonly used for planar dose measurement is the MapCHECK 7 , 8 device (and its upgrade, the MapCHECK 2) 9 , 10 , 11 by Sun Nuclear Corporation of Melbourne, FL, accompanied by its analytical software component (i.e., “MapCHECK” up to version 5.2; “SNC Patient” thereafter).…”
