A hybrid volumetric dose verification method for single‐isocenter multiple‐target cranial SRS

Abstract: A commercial semi‐empirical volumetric dose verification system (PerFraction [PF], Sun Nuclear Corp.) extracts multi‐leaf collimator positions from the electronic portal imaging device movies collected during a pre‐treatment run, while the rest of the delivered control point information is harvested from the accelerator log files. This combination is used to reconstruct dose on a patient CT dataset with a fast superposition/convolution algorithm. The method was validated for single‐isocenter multi‐target SRS V… Show more

“…Film processing followed a meticulous protocol paramount for accurate dosimetry . The film sheets were cut into 7.5 × 7.5 cm 2 squares, marked to preserve the original orientation, and each piece was scanned individually to establish the background density map.…”

“…However, our standard method for patient‐specific dosimetric quality assurance is semiempirical 3D dose reconstruction (PerFRACTION [PF] v. 3.0.2, Sun Nuclear), 26 which we intended to validate for the use with Halcyon. The plan is delivered prior to the first fraction with nothing in the beam path, and dose is recalculated on the patient dataset using a new DICOM RT PLAN object, wherein all possible control point parameters are harvested from the accelerator log (trajectory) files 26–28 . Additionally, if time‐resolved (cine) EPID images are available, the log files MLC positions are replaced with those extracted from the EPID movie.…”

“…In order to ensure the patient's safety, patient-specific quality assurance (QA) is an essential key link before delivery of IMRT plan 3 . Patient-specific QA analyzes and evaluates the deviation between the predicted dose and the measured dose of patient plan in phantom by film dosimetry 4 , ionization chambers 5 , electronic portal imaging device (EPID) 6 , two-dimensional (2D) array detector [7][8][9] , three-dimensional (3D) dosimetric systems, and the gel dosimetry 10,11 , etc. For performing quantitative evaluation to the calculation accuracy of TPS system and the delivery precision of linear accelerator, Low et al 12 proposed the gamma analysis method.…”
